The Universal Waite Tarot is in design the same tarot as the Rider Waite Tarot (as it is commonly known in the USA); i.e., the tarot deck designed by Pamela Colman Smith and published as illustrations to A. E. Waite's Pictorial Key to the Tarot in 1911 by Rider. However, the colors in the two decks are different. The Universal Waite deck was colored by Mary Hanson-Roberts in what the publisher describes as a "soothing, eye-appealing" manner.
