Lord of the Rings Tarot

Lord of the Rings tarot

I read The Hobbit when I was in my third year of high school, and then the Lord of the Rings trilogy the following year.  The works were very popular in the late 1960's and early 1970's, partly because their imagery and philosophy matched the mood of the times.  My older brother, then attending Fordham University, had a huge poster of Middle Earth in his apartment, along with burlap peace-sign curtains (all very cool) and a plastic inflatable chair (not so cool, and I believe it had a slow leak as well, so not all that comfortable).  I loved the poster, and am still taken with most artwork related to Middle Earth.

I'm also still taken with the idea of the warm, cozy comfortableness of a pleasantly furnished hobbit hole, at least as Tolkien described it.

The Lord of the Rings Tarot, by tarot and folklore expert Terry Donaldson, skillfully weaves Middle-earth and all its characters and fanciful places into a tarot system that will delight both Tolkien fans and tarot aficionados.

The tarot deck was inspired by J.R.R. Tolkien's stories of Middle-earth.  Tolkien's epic tales illustrate how friendship, love and loyalty among friends overcome evil forces and hardships.

The Lord of the Rings Deck & Book Set includes the tarot and card game deck plus a spread sheet for card readings and The Lord of the Rings Tarot Book, by Terry Donaldson.  (Paperback, 272 pp.)  Donaldson's discussion of the cards wends through Tolkien's works, traditional tarot inspirations, astrological associations and original spreads and meditations.  The Lord of the Rings Tarot is the ultimate guide for all visitors exploring Middle-earth via the tarot.
